What is the first job of a government?

That is a fair enough question, where many people may not know the answer to.

Over the past few years some may be of the opinion that the job of a government is to push people to the edge, just before rioting and then dial it down a little.

While that may be true, that is a whole topic in itself not part of the scope of this post.

This question was asked on national television in mid June of 2015 on the ABC’s programme called Q & A, of a government official, the Speaker of the House (of Representatives) who was Ms. Bronwyn Bishop.

The response given by Ms. Bishop was:

” The first job of a government is to look after the safety of its people”.

What does that really mean?

Many people might say that it means that the government is to look after they safety of the general population.

Let’s use the same question and answer with a substitution of word from ” a government” to just “Telstra”

Q: “What is the first job of Telstra”

A: “The first job of Telstra is to look after the safety of its people”.

Now do you get it?

So, who are the government’s ‘people’?

The Executive, Parliament, Judicature, and not the general population, the serfs.
